Master’s Accelerator

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies program offers students advanced knowledge of the languages, arts, literatures, histories, societies, politics, and cultures of Russia, Ukraine, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and countries of the West Slavic (Poland, Czech Republic) and South Slavic (Balkan) regions.

This broad geographical region is home to rich and diverse cultures that have had an enormous impact on world civilization. It is central to strategic, political, economic, cultural, and environmental issues of the present and future. KU's program is interdisciplinary and draws on over 35 faculty members and courses from 12 different KU departments and schools.

Qualifying undergraduate degrees:

Preference for social science or humanities background, but all four-year bachelor’s degrees considered.


Additional entry requirements:

Language proficiency in your regional/specialty area upon completion of Master’s degree – we recommend you have at least elementary language skills upon starting the Master’s Accelerator or it may take longer to complete your degree.

Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies requires two semesters or equivalent of language study in your regional/specialty academic area.

Progression Details

Once students successfully complete their MAP curriculum and meet the progression requirements for their degree, students progress into their master’s degree. They will bring 6 or 9 credits with them that count towards the total number of credits required for their degree. Students will pay KU’s standard cost per credit hour for the duration of their degree. The average graduate student will take 9-12 credits per semester, based on workload, course availability, and number of credits needed. Direct MAP students are enrolled in their degree program from the start and do not need to meet any requirements to progress.
